Democrats won big at the polls, sweeping all races! Jennifer O’Mara beat Alex Charlton by a slim margin, proving that every vote does indeed count. She will be the first Democrat to represent the 165th district in 40+ years, and the first woman ever to hold the office. Swarthmore Mayor, Tim Kearney, defeated Tom McGarrigle in the PA Senate race. Mary Gay Scanlon easily beat Pearl Kim in both the old 7th Congressional District and the new 5th Congressional District races. And, Governor Tom Wolf and Senator Bob Casey fended off Scott Wagner and Lou Barletta, respectively.
Voter turnout was high throughout the County, and Springfield was no exception. The blue wave is strong in Springfield; let’s continue to ride it into the 2019 races!
